Just a simple writeup on replacing a spring in a Longshot. First, the Longshot:

You want to unscrew all of the screws, but don't take them out of the shell.
Next, pull the top half of the shell off the other half.

Now, pull the whole boltsled out of the shell

Unscrew the back cover of the plunger tube and pull out the plunger.

Just unscrew the plungerhead, trade springs, and screw it back on. Then, put the plunger back in the plunger tube.
While you're at it, replace the catch spring seen here.

This is also a good time to drill out the ar's.

Now you can put it back together.

What size spring do you recommend? I have a stock LS stored away in my closet... I need to single it one of these days.

Well, sticking with stock springs from other blasters would probably be preferred. The one I used was actually a K34 from McMasterCarr. It's actually a pretty interesting story on how I got it, but I did get it for free. That piece of it(it originally came 36" long) had a constant of about 90lbs, iirc. It bent the priming handle

It did shoot about 150' with just that spring and ar removal.

Yes. Was a very powerful spring. Took both hands while holding it against my chest to prime it. And let me tell you, I am neither small nor weak.

That must be what Rogue's Longshots are like...

Actually, Rogue pretty much uses K26's. The only reason his go so far is the breeches and seal and stuff. That spring was too powerful for the Longshot, and probably would have broke some of the internals had it been in there longer than I left it in there.

. No, I don't think so. A K18 has a constant of 2.9926 lbs/in., while a K26 is 3.88 lbs/in.. I've done the math before, and some of Rogue's Longshots have a constant twice that.

^I found that over at Nrev.
I think the spring combo he uses is K26, longshot, and ERTL RFSG.

Funny, the formula on the springs page on NRev says my spring has a constant of 65.5lbs/inch

God, thats a strong spring! I'm not sure, but I think a K26 had a 30lb. draw wheight fully compressed. Most nerfers keap it an inch from fully compressed. I'm 13, and I can prime an experiment blaster no problem that has a k26, but my LS had one fully compressed. That is really hard to prime!

MIG's "man spring" has a draw wheight of 50lbs., so that means your spring is stronger in one in. than MIG's "man spring" has fully compressed! You must be an extremely strong man.

I am pretty strong, but I'm not sure if I did the formula right, so I'm having someone else try the formula to see.
